"LBC street properties make up over 20% of Camden's housing stock. In fact, in some areas such as Kentish Town, they represent as much as 50% of the council's housing stock"
"There is clear evidence that the majority of LBC street properties have been left out of important consultation exercises. For example, Camden's Community Safety Strategy, rent setting process, capital works, repairs re-structuring, etc. In view of this, there is a clear reason to examine how this may have affected improvements in service delivery in a number of key areas to LBC street property tenants and residents"
How were LBC street property tenants and residents encouraged to participate / engage in the following (scrutiny) panels - tenancy support for vulnerable residents, housing repairs, planning, licensing and noise enforcement, tackling the drugs problem, anti-social behaviour, etc, and how have the various recommendations translated into delivering a more effective housing service for LBC tenants and residents living in Camden's residential streets? All of these issues are important for tenants and residents living in these properties and we request that Camden's OSC (Overview and Scrutiny Commission) set up a short scrutiny panel to ensure that their views are heard and acted on!" (CASP deputation to Camden's OSC, June 2005)
Historically, we believe that it has always been difficult for the majority of LBC street property tenants and residents to fit into the wider consultation mechanism currently in place in Camden and we therefore aim to highlight, as much as possible, issues that affect members living in Camden street properties.
Since its re-launch in October 2004, CASP has participated in a number of formal consultations and 'spoken out' on issues such as community safety and LBC street properties, capital works and repairs to LBC street properties, council housing 'sell-offs', changes to Camden's tenancy conditions and housing allocations system, Camden's Housing Management Improvement Project and its impact on LBC street properties and the importance of the inclusion of the views of street property leaseholders in Camden's Leaseholders' Improvement Plan, etc.
